Best Trail and Ultra Running Podcasts

Best Trail and Ultra Running Podcasts

Podcasts are great ways to learn about trail and ultra running from experts, adventurers, and just regular people doing amazing things. With the growth in trail, and especially ultra running, there are now many podcasters putting out great content regularly. Podcasts are a personal preference, so try them out and I hope you find one that resonates with you!

Community Trail Running

One of the newer voices in trail running media, the Community Trail Running podcast and newsletter by Adam Lee has quickly established itself as a thoughtful and accessible extension of the sport’s culture. Launched in 2021, the podcast was built with a clear mission: to “inform, entertain, and inclusively serve as an online extension of the trail running community.” Rather than focusing exclusively on elite performance or race results, the show emphasizes the people, stories, and shared experiences that define trail running. Episodes are typically short, around 20 minutes, making them easy to integrate into a commute, recovery jog, or quiet morning before a long run.

For listeners looking to stay connected to trail running beyond their own local trails, Community Trail Running provides a valuable window into the broader culture of the sport. It captures the feeling that trail running is less about splits and podiums and more about exploration, relationships, and shared experience. Whether that’s training for a first ultra or simply enjoying time outside. Consistent releases every one to two weeks make it a reliable addition to any ultrarunner’s podcast rotation, particularly for those interested in the stories that exist beyond race day.

I enjoyed my time with Adam where he asked me some probing questions on running that I hadn’t asked myself before. Please check out our conversation!

She Runs Ultras

In the sea of running podcasts, this one stands out with its focus on running ultras. It's a breath of fresh air amidst content typically saturated with gear reviews, race analyses, and stories of superhuman feats from top-tier athletes.

Don't get me wrong, there's immense value in such podcasts, but this one taps into a previously underrepresented perspective - that of the non-professional runners, those who don't grace the podium, the mid-pack to back-pack warriors who aren't in it for the glory or the paycheck.

This podcast is a response to the demand for relatable content - born out of an inability to find a platform speaking to the everyday ultra-runner's experience. It dares to share the unfiltered reality of training for and running an ultra, making it a resource as much as a companion to those embarking on a similar journey.

This podcast speaks to both the seasoned ultra-runner and the ultra-curious, offering a perspective that is as enriching as it is endearing. Whether you're part of the ultra community or merely interested, this podcast offers an authentic, accessible, and relatable insight into the world of ultrarunning.
